Audacity is a free, easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac, and other operating systems. You can use Audacity to:
- Record live audio, podcasts, narration, etc.
- Convert tapes and records into digital recordings
- Export to MP3 (After installing free plugin)
- Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds and sound files

Download & Install LAME Library
Because of software patents, Audacity cannot freely include the software required to export MP3 files – but you can. Audacity recommends using a very popular third-party MP3 plugin called LAME.
